Barrington High School Deans' Office

How to Contact Your Dean

Throughout the school year, parents often ask about school policies. In this letter we are sharing the responses to the most frequently asked questions.
If you would like any further information, please check in the Student Handbook or call the Deans' Office.

Attendance

·         If your son/daughter is absent for the day, please call the Attendance Office at 756-2300 within twenty-four (24) hours to have the absence excused.

·         If a computer call is received at your home saying that your son/daughter missed one or more classes during the school day and you are unsure which of your children this call is for, please dial this same number and our staff will help clarify who had the absence.

Signing In and Out

·          Students who arrive after their school day has begun are. required to sign in at the Attendance Office if his/her tardiness will be excused.

·          If your son/daughter needs to leave during the school day, he/she needs to sign out at the Attendance Office and sign back in upon returning to school. This procedure must be followed even when the student leaves during a passing period or lunch.

·          A parental note or phone call must accompany a request to leave school early or sign in late.

Unscheduled Eighth Hour

·         Juniors or seniors without a scheduled eighth hour class may be given your permission to leave campus early each day. A parent signature is required on a form that your son/daughter needs to pick up in the Deans' Office. The student's ID will be punched indicating their new release time. Your son/daughter is required to carry his/her ID card and present it upon request when leaving. Note that once students have left, they may not return onto campus until after the buses depart. The same procedure must be followed for each semester.

Seniors (and Juniors) Parking Privileges

·         Please note that if your son/daughter reaches a total of fifteen (15) absences (tardy, parental excused and/or unexcused) in anyone class, his/her driving privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the semester. Students must use caution, drive safely, follow all traffic regulations, and park only in their authorized area, or they are subject to ticketing/towing, Saturday detentions and having their parking/driving privileges revoked. There will be no refund of parking fees for lost parking privileges.

Dress and Appearance

·         Our school community values and supports an environment that maximizes learning for all students. Any attire that disrupts the educational environment, is offensive and/or promotes illegal activity is not appropriate in our educational environment. We encourage you and your son/daughter to be thoughtful and reflective about attire worn during the school day.

Electronic Signaling Devices

·         Students may not use cell phones in classrooms, locker rooms, offices, the library and rest rooms. Violation of this policy results in a half Saturday detention or confiscation of the phone for 5 school days.
