What is
the "ACADEMIC BOOSTERS?"
The
Academic
Boosters
was
established by the BHS PTO to fund academic needs
that enhance the learning experience of our children but were not
addressed by the District due to financial constraints. The
additional funds are raised through a “No Stress Fundraiser”.
It’s “No Stress” because there is no buying or selling.
All you have to do is make a one time monetary contribution to the
BHS PTO. Also, many corporations will match the contributions that
employees make to this fundraiser. A partial list of companies that
have matched donations in the past includes Ameritech, Baxter, HSBC,
Kraft, Motorola and Washington Mutual. Please check with your
employer regarding its matching program.

A LETTER FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear
Parents,
Over the past twenty-some years, I have
had a first-hand opportunity to see how the support and active
involvement provided by parents like you have contributed in a major way
to the quality of education we have been able to provide for your
children. Once again, parents have an opportunity to provide BHS with a
“little something extra” that we, in turn, can integrate into daily
instructional practice with students. Even though we are well supported
by our community through local taxes, our budgets are limited.
Departmental budgets at the high school go mainly for supplies and
expendable materials necessary to provide an excellent learning
experience. Unfortunately, we are usually unable to purchase capital
items that serve as “long term” improvements.
Over the past six years, we have been
able to integrate technology into many of our classrooms. Once a
classroom has been equipped, teacher and students have the ability to
connect with the Internet, cable TV and access the world of educational
DVD’s. An LCD projector in the classroom can effectively display
mathematical software, great works discussed in an art history class, a
recent political debate, or the internal structures of a microorganism.
Both teacher and student presentations can utilize PowerPoint software.
When we began this initiative, our goal was to place appropriate
technology in every classroom at Barrington High School.
Currently, we still have some twenty
classroom instructional areas to complete.
We would also would like to purchase Senteo Interactive Response
Systems to integrate with the new SMART boards previously purchased
through the PTO. This system has the capability to tally student
responses, post test results and provide individual feedback that
actively engages students with the material being studied. The use of
these technologies, coupled with our new BHS TV studio, creates an
environment filled with exciting possibilities for students to learn in
our dynamically changing interactive world.
With the generous help of the PTO’s
Academic Booster’s NO STRESS FUNDRAISER , technology has made a
positive impact on daily instruction across our high school. It is our
intent to make these technologies available to all programs and touch
all students. On behalf of the students and staff of Barrington High
School, I thank you for your continuing support.
Sincerely,
Emil Rode, Principal, Barrington High School

WHERE THE MONEY GOES
Last year, BHS placed LCD Projectors or Smartboards
in many classrooms. This year, the BHS PTO hopes to purchase
additional LCD projectors reaching our goal of placing appropriate
technology into each and every classroom at BHS.
